SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of William "Maine" Henry Chillis Jr., who
4passed away on March 2, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maine Chillis was born to William Henry Chillis
6Sr. and Sadie Price Chillis in Utica, Mississippi on January
724, 1944; he was the first child of eight in his family and the
8grandson of Jasper and Emma Neal Price; he committed to his
9faith at an early age and later became a member of Kindling
10Star M.B. Church in Greenville, Mississippi; during his early
11education, he attended Greenville Public Schools, where he
12played football; he married Bessie Mae White in Chicago in
131967; he attended Coyne College where he became certified in
14the maintenance and repair of appliances; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After finishing high school, Maine Chillis
16immediately entered the workforce by serving as head cook at
17the Greenville Air Force Base; after receiving his
18certification, he was employed with the Hutcherson Company,
19where he worked various jobs; he later became the co-owner of
20Harrison Bros. Appliances; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Maine Chillis will be remembered as a kind man
22and a great cook; after having spent a great deal of time as a

1child watching his parents cook, he enjoyed cooking and was
2often the family advisor for instruction on cooking various
3dishes; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Maine Chillis was preceded in death by his
5parents and his beloved Bessie Mae; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Maine Chillis is survived by his children, Bobby
7White Jr., David (Linda) White Jr., Wanda Brandt, Efrem
8(Lorraine) Chillis, Chantella (Byron) Chillis-Jackson, Tiffany
9Rodrigues, Rashida Greenwood, and Tanisha Smith; his godson,
10Andre Harris; his 26 grandchildren; his 23
11great-grandchildren; his four brothers, James Chillis Sr.,
12Frank Chillis, Jerry Chillis Sr., and Freddie (Brenda) Chillis
13Sr.; his three sisters, Hannah Chillis, Henrietta Edwards, and
14Gloria Shanklin; his aunt, Carrie Taylor; his two uncles, Rev.
15Simon Price and James Flaggs Sr.; and a host of nieces and
16nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19William "Maine" Henry Chillis Jr. and extend our sincere
20condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21him; and be it further
