SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Residents of the 16th District and across
3Illinois are among the many beneficiaries of Senator
4Jacqueline Y. Collins' 20 years of service in the Illinois
5Senate; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins was born in McComb, Mississippi and
7moved to the South Side neighborhood of Englewood when she was
8a child; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins majored in Journalism at
10Northwestern University, is a graduate of Harvard's John F.
11Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Divinity School, and
12earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School
13of Law; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins is a proud member of The Faith
15Community of Saint Sabina Church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, A former journalist and Emmy award-nominated
17editor at CBS, Sen. Collins has used her experience to support
18a progressive agenda to create economic and social welfare
19policies that reduce inequality, expand opportunity, and
20strengthen communities; and

1    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins' major legislative accomplishments
2include making Illinois the first in the Midwest to ban "ghost
3guns", the historic Predatory Loan Prevention Act, the
4Illinois Community Reinvestment Act, the Mortgage Rescue Fraud
5Act, the landmark Sudan Divestment Act, and the 2005 Payday
6Loan Reform Act; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins served as chair of the Senate
8Criminal Law Committee and served on the Senate Financial
9Institutions and Transportation Committees; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins has served in leadership positions
11for the Illinois Senate Democratic Caucus since 2017 as
12Majority Caucus Whip, Deputy Majority Caucus Chair, and
13finally as Assistant Majority Leader; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sen. Collins is retiring her seat in the Illinois
15Senate after nearly 20 years of public service but will
16continue to be an active advocate on behalf of her community;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Senator
20Jacqueline Y. Collins for her service and devotion to her
21community and the people of Illinois; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to Sen. Collins as a symbol of our gratitude and
3respect.
