SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph M. "Joe" Vinzant of East Moline, who passed away on December 5, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant was born to Cecil and Grace (Moore) Vinzant in Lineville, Iowa on July 3, 1936; he moved to Silvis at the age of two, where he lived until graduating from United Township High School in 1954; he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and was stationed in Japan at Tokyo Army Hospital until he was discharged in 1958; after serving his country, he attended Eastern Illinois University; he married Olive Fitch in 1962; later, he married Barbara Driscoll-Hall in Rock Island on March 22, 1974; and

WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant was the credit manager at Lutheran Hospital until 1989; and

WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant's biggest passion in life was playing tennis in high school and at Eastern Illinois University; he continued to play tennis well into his 70s; among his many accolades, he was top ranked in the state of Iowa for numerous years and achieved a #4 national ranking in 1996 with his son, Chad; he was elected to the Iowa Tennis Hall of Fame in 2001; however, more impressive than his accomplishments on the court were the many wonderful lifelong relationships he built with multiple generations of avid tennis players across the community; and

WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant is survived by his sons, Scott (Amy) and Chad (Amy) Vinzant; his stepdaughters, Lori (Dan) Poker and Sheri (Patrick) Stohl; and his grandchildren, Anna, Sarah, and Grace Vinzant, Heidi (Austin) Hopkins, and Allen (Erin Gholson) Seabloom; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph M. "Joe" Vinzant and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joe Vinzant as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
