SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Joseph M. "Joe" Vinzant of East
4Moline, who passed away on December 5, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant was born to Cecil and Grace (Moore)
6Vinzant in Lineville, Iowa on July 3, 1936; he moved to Silvis
7at the age of two, where he lived until graduating from United
8Township High School in 1954; he enlisted in the U.S. Army in
91955 and was stationed in Japan at Tokyo Army Hospital until he
10was discharged in 1958; after serving his country, he attended
11Eastern Illinois University; he married Olive Fitch in 1962;
12later, he married Barbara Driscoll-Hall in Rock Island on
13March 22, 1974; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant was the credit manager at Lutheran
15Hospital until 1989; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant's biggest passion in life was playing
17tennis in high school and at Eastern Illinois University; he
18continued to play tennis well into his 70s; among his many
19accolades, he was top ranked in the state of Iowa for numerous
20years and achieved a #4 national ranking in 1996 with his son,
21Chad; he was elected to the Iowa Tennis Hall of Fame in 2001;
22however, more impressive than his accomplishments on the court

1were the many wonderful lifelong relationships he built with
2multiple generations of avid tennis players across the
3community; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Joe Vinzant is survived by his sons, Scott (Amy)
5and Chad (Amy) Vinzant; his stepdaughters, Lori (Dan) Poker
6and Sheri (Patrick) Stohl; and his grandchildren, Anna, Sarah,
7and Grace Vinzant, Heidi (Austin) Hopkins, and Allen (Erin
8Gholson) Seabloom; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Joseph M. "Joe" Vinzant and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Joe Vinzant as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
