SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul Richard "Dick" Ware of Jacksonville, who passed away on November 20, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ware was born to Claude and Dorothy Smith Ware in Decatur on July 16, 1931; he graduated from Tuscola High School in 1949; he attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the 1952 Big Ten Champion track team, graduating in 1953; he married Maysel Jones in 1949, and she preceded him in death in 1985; he later married Anne Woodrum in 1987, and she preceded him in death in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ware began working for his father at Ware Oil Company upon graduation, eventually serving as CEO and chairman of the board; he helped grow the family service station/convenience store business until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ware served on the boards of Elliott State Bank, FirstBank of Illinois, Passavant Hospital, and the Illinois State Museum; he served as president of the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association and the MacMurray College Board of Trustees; he was a member of the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers Association, the Ansar Shriners, First Presbyterian Church, Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Jacksonville Country Club, and the Elks Club; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ware was a lifelong student and teacher of nature, particularly of birds and insects, and he especially enjoyed participating in bird banding and bird counts; he continued being an active runner, then walker, through his 80s; he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, photography, and spending time in Florida, where he volunteered at Sarasota's Mote Marine Aquarium; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ware was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert "Bob" Ware; and his brothers, Jon Ware and Bill Ware; and

WHEREAS, Paul Ware is survived by his children, Vickie (Danny) Brooks and Jim (Leslie) Ware; his daughter-in-law, Sherri; his grandchildren, Spencer (Jennifer) Ware, Cathy (Bill) Gibson, Christie (Joel) Leege, Abby (Dave) Nagel, and Kelly (John) Armour; his stepson, Bill (Maureen) Woodrum; his step-grandchildren, Amy (Mason) Woodside and Alyssa (Noah) Adams; his step-great-grandson, Brody Johnson; his 17 great-grandchildren; and his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Paul Richard "Dick" Ware and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Ware as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
