SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard H. Driehaus of Chicago, who
4passed away on March 9, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Driehaus was born on July 27, 1942 and
6was a lifelong resident of Chicago; he graduated from St.
7Margaret of Scotland Catholic Grammar School, St. Ignatius
8College Prep, and Southeast Junior College; he earned his
9bachelor's degree in 1965 from DePaul University and his
10Master of Business Administration from DePaul in 1970; he also
11holds honorary doctoral degrees from DePaul and St. Xavier
12University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Richard Driehaus joined A.G. Becker and within
14two years became its youngest portfolio manager in addition to
15being ranked among the top 1% of the portfolio managers
16measured by the A.G. Becker Fund Evaluation Service; from 1973
17to 1979, he worked at various brokerage firms, including
18Mullaney, Wells & Co. as Director of Research and Jesup &
19Lamont as Director of Research and a money manager; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1979, Richard Driehaus formed the stock
21brokerage firm Driehaus Securities Corporation; in 1982, he
22formed Driehaus Capital Management, which currently manages

1$13.2 billion in assets; and
 
2    WHEREAS, In 2000, Richard Driehaus was featured by
3Barron's magazine as part of the All-Century team of the 25
4individuals identified as the most influential within the
5mutual fund industry over the past 100 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Richard Driehaus recognized early in his career
7that giving back to society makes for a fuller life; he focused
8his attention and energy on a wide variety of philanthropic
9and community service endeavors and donated in excess of $5
10million per year, which was done individually and through the
11efforts of The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation and the Richard
12H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trusts; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Since 2001, the annual Richard H. Driehaus prize
14for classical architecture, through the University of Notre
15Dame, has honored architects from around the world; the
16$200,000 prize promotes and encourages the principles of
17traditional, classical, and sustainable architecture and
18urbanism; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Richard Driehaus was the devoted father of
20Tereza, Caroline, and Katherine Driehaus; the loving brother
21of Dorothy (Art) Mellin and Elizabeth Driehaus (Demitrios
22Athens); and the fond uncle and great-uncle of numerous nieces

1and nephews; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Richard H. Driehaus and extend our sincere condolences to his
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Richard Driehaus as an expression
9of our deepest sympathy.
