SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Christine "Tina" Perkins of Chicago,
4who passed away on June 1, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Christine Perkins was born to Christine and
6Marion "Mose" Dawson on December 2, 1949, the first of the 13
7children they had together; she grew up on East Bowen Street
8and attended Fuller Elementary School and DuSable High School;
9she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business from Northeastern
10Illinois University; she married Maurice Perkins on December
1129, 1968, and they raised three beautiful children together,
12Maurice "Antuan," Heather, and Marcus; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Christine Perkins accompanied her husband during
14his U.S. Army assignment in Frankfort, Germany in 1968 and
151969; she worked at the U.S. Post Exchange and provided home
16cooked meals for the soldiers and made people feel loved while
17away from their own loved ones; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Christine Perkins and her husband returned to
19Chicago on July 27, 1970 and started their work in the tavern
20business, first at Black Silhouette and then at their own
21tavern, Caesar's Palace; she also served as school clerk at
22Jackie Robinson and Wadsworth Elementary Schools; and

1    WHEREAS, Christine Perkins and her husband purchased the
2Swift Mansion from the Urban League in 1992, and she became the
3co-founder of the Inner City Youth and Adult Foundation; she
4was dedicated to supporting senior citizens and youth within
5the community, and her program was focused on decreasing
6hopelessness among youth through promoting education and
7on-the-job training, increasing work and recreational
8opportunities, and providing housing opportunities to those in
9need; she worked with judges to provide alternatives to
10incarceration and formed partnerships with juvenile justice
11programs; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Christine Perkins will be remembered most as a
13servant leader; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Christine "Tina" Perkins and extend our sincere condolences to
17her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Tina Perkins as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
