SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George Hutton Greenley of Rock Island,
4who passed away on October 21, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Greenley was born to Kenneth Fredrick and
6Gladys (Hutton) Greenley in Davenport, Iowa on May 29, 1940;
7he attended Colorado State College at Greeley, now Northern
8Colorado University; he served in the U.S. Navy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, George Greenley first worked at the opening of
10the Seattle World's Fair before serving in the U.S. Navy; he
11retired from Modern Woodmen of America after 30 years of
12service; he also worked for Johannes Bus Service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, George Greenley participated in the March on
14Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and
15Liberation in Washington, D.C. on April 25, 1993; he was a
16member and avid supporter of the Metropolitan Community Church
17of the Quad Cities (MCC QC) and numerous other local
18charities; he volunteered with the American Red Cross and
19Honor Flight Quad Cities; he also served on the Grounds
20Committee at Friendship Manor; and
 
21    WHEREAS, George Greenley was a lifelong world traveler who

1visited all seven continents, over 30 foreign nations, and
2every state of the United States, usually with friends and
3family; he loved hosting Mississippi River parties on his
4cabin cruiser "GG" and Memorial Day parties at his home in Rock
5Island; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Greenley was known for working and
7partying hard and often pulling pranks on those he loved; he
8will be remembered for his playful spirit and generous nature;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, George Greenley is survived by his brother and
11sister-in-law, Gordon and Helen Greenley; his special friend,
12Richard Haynes; his nieces, Sarah and Laura Greenley; and his
13many friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16George Hutton Greenley and extend our sincere condolences to
17his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of George Greenley as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
