SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Thomas L. "Gus" Gainey of Orion, who
4passed away on August 22, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was born to Guy and Martha Miller
6Gainey in the Colona Township on November 3, 1929; he served in
7the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954; he married Nancy K.
8Westerlund in Orion on October 24, 1952; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was a longtime farmer in the Orion
10area; he was also employed with Clark Feed & Supply in Orion,
11NBC in Cambridge, and AGH of Orion, where he was a part owner;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was an active member of the Orion
14United Methodist Church, the Orion American Legion Post #255,
15the Orion Masonic Sherman Lodge, and the Orion Order of the
16Eastern Star; he was also a member of a 50-year card club group
17of friends; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Gus Gainey enjoyed bowling and playing baseball
19in his younger years; he was also a diehard St. Louis Cardinals
20fan; he was an excellent woodworker and an Honor Flight
21attendee, an experience that made him very proud; and

1    WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was preceded in death by his parents;
2his brothers, Mervin and Darrel "Diz" Gainey; and his sister,
3Loretta Hallquist; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gus Gainey is survived by his wife, Nancy; his
5sons, Ty (Pam) Gainey, Grant (Rhonda) Gainey, Neil (Rena)
6Gainey, and Kurt (Mary) Gainey; his 10 granddaughters; his 17
7great-grandchildren; his sister, Evelyn Nichols; and his
8brother, Gene (Jeanne) Gainey; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Thomas L. "Gus" Gainey and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Gus Gainey as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
