SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Salome Bobbie Matthews Wallace of
4Richmond Heights, Florida, who passed away on July 16, 2022;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Salome Wallace was born to Lee Matthews and
7Corrine Cottle-Matthews in Buenavista, Georgia on September
815, 1931; she graduated from George Washington Carver High
9School in 1951; she married Emery Lee Wallace, and they moved
10to Richmond Heights in 1952; she attended Nova University and
11Florida International University, where she earned her
12master's degree in Social Work and Early Childhood Education;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Early in her career, Salome Wallace served the
15South Miami community through the Economic Opportunity Program
16Inc. (E.O.P.I.) neighborhood center that provided food and
17clothing to low-income families; she later created the Teen
18Center, where she was able to employ the youth in the community
19and train them to enter the workforce; she went on to direct
20Head Start programs across Dade County; she taught and led in
21Florida City, Homestead, Perrine, Brownsville, Little Haiti,
22and Opa Locka; and

1    WHEREAS, Salome Wallace was known as a "village mom" in
2Richmond Heights, serving as a mother to anyone who needed
3one; she will be remembered for being a pillar and a pioneer of
4her community for over 70 years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Salome Wallce was preceded in death by her
6parents; her sister; and her oldest daughter, Vanessa Wallace
7Maultsey; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Salome Wallace is survived by her sons, Emery Lee
9Wallace Jr., Keith Dale Wallace, and Mark (Rosie) Johnathan
10Wallace; her son-in-law, Willie "Turk" Hayward; her surrogate
11son, Elmo Dotson; her daughter, Ellery Wallace Hayward; her
12surrogate daughters, Dot Lee and Jackie Wright; her grandsons,
13Antwuan Tremayne Wallace, Emery Lee Wallace III, Bernard
14(Theresa) Larry Hudson Jr., Mark Johnathan Hudson, Willie
15(Keisha) George Hayward Jr., and Aja (Kayontae) Kareem
16Hayward; her granddaughters, Amber (Robert) Lanay Hayward-Carr
17and Katie Lee Maultsby; her great-grandsons, Bernard Hudson
18III, Emery Wallace IV, Dariyus Maultsby, Robert Carr III, Siah
19Hayward, Zane Wallace, Mark Hudson Jr., Julius Telfair Jr.,
20Akachi Hayward, and Azziah Hudson; her great-granddaughters,
21Charkyla D., Tahlaya Hudson, Vanessa Hudson, Ni'Kiyah Hudson,
22Erin Wallace, Briell Robinson, Nala Hayward, Aobrie Carr,
23Damariah Hudson, and Skylar Hudson; her great-great-grandsons,
24Jayceon Smith, Dion Hill III, Diondre Hill, and Di'Anthony

1Hill; her great-great-granddaughter, Journey Smith; and a host
2of nieces, nephews, cousins, and village children; therefore,
3be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Salome Bobbie Matthews Wallace and extend our sincere
7condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
8her; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Salome Wallace as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
