SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Paul Herman Uphoff of Graymont, who
4passed away on June 24, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Uphoff was born to Clarence J. and Lydia
6(Brave) Uphoff on October 6, 1942; he was raised on the family
7farm south of Graymont; he attended Flanagan Schools, where he
8was very involved in FFA, remaining an avid supporter
9throughout his life, and won the National Farm Mechanics
10Award; after high school, he served in the Illinois National
11Guard; he married Sarah Lebo in El Paso on July 26, 1969, and
12they had five children; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Paul Uphoff returned to work on the family farm
14with his brother, and he later worked beside his son, Philip;
15alongside his family, he spent many years in the Columbia
16sheep business, meeting many wonderful lifelong friends from
17around the country at the annual National Show and Sale, a
18yearly adventure that the entire family enjoyed; he worked on
19the farm until his passing; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Paul Uphoff was deeply committed to his faith; he
21and his wife served as youth sponsors at St. John's Lutheran
22Church, and he later became a Sunday School teacher; in his

1later years, he enjoyed attending coffee hours with his church
2crew and providing pizzas to the youth groups at Graymont
3Baptist Church; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Paul Uphoff never met a stranger, loved to travel
5out West, and always liked the idea of the cowboy life; most of
6all, he was dedicated to his family, working tirelessly to
7provide for them and set the right example; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Paul Uphoff is survived by his wife of 53 years,
9Sarah; his children, Anne (Nick) Macey, Mary (Rob) McCorkle,
10Seth (Jen) Uphoff, Leah (Ryan) Hansen, and Philip (Brook)
11Uphoff; his grandchildren, Caity (Nate Aiello) Macey, Sarah
12Macey, Dalton (Ashleigh) McCorkle, Adam McCorkle, Grace
13McCorkle, Avery Uphoff, Emma Uphoff, Ben Uphoff, Kate Uphoff,
14Elsie Hansen, Andrew Hansen, Maggie Hansen, Lydia Hansen, Drew
15Uphoff, Abram Uphoff, and one Uphoff baby due in August; his
16great-grandchildren, Ava Aiello and Molly McCorkle; his
17brother, John (Liz) Uphoff; and his sister, Dorothy (John)
18Rosenbaum; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Paul Herman Uphoff and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
23further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Paul Uphoff as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
