SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James Loren "Jim" Burrus of Arcadia,
4who passed away on April 22, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Burrus was born to Loren W. "Pete" and Marie
6C. Bertolino Burrus in Jacksonville on January 11, 1950; he
7married Mary Bergschneider at the Church of Our Saviour in
8Jacksonville on July 12, 1969; he attended Lincoln Land
9Community College; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Burrus was a lifelong farmer in the Arcadia
11area, where he raised corn and soybeans; he also raised
12organic, grass-fed Angus cattle and was a pioneer of
13Management Intensive Grazing in the area; he enjoyed mentoring
14farmers who wanted to get started in Intensive Grazing and was
15very willing to help them however he could; he hosted several
16farm walks on his farm as a way to inform farmers about his
17practices; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Burrus, along with his wife, earned the
19Illinois Beef Association Environmental Steward of the Year
20Award in 2006, the Morgan County Conservation Farm Family of
21the Year in 2014, and the Illinois Department of Agriculture's
22Sustainable Agriculture Farmer of the Year Award in 2014; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Burrus attended St. Mark's Catholic Church in
2Winchester; he held his private pilot's license and was a
3founding member of the Jacksonville Flying Club, and he loved
4flying whenever he could; he enjoyed having coffee with his
5friends in the morning and afternoon breaks at Klem's Hangar
6at the Jacksonville Airport; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jim Burrus was preceded in death by his parents;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jim Burrus is survived by his wife, Mary; his
10daughter, Heather (Don) Viele; his grandchildren, Jared Viele
11and Olivia Viele; his sister, Lou Ann (Ron) Sweatman; and his
12nieces, Gina Holtz and Angi Bobsin; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15James Loren "Jim" Burrus and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Jim Burrus as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
