2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael C. Langendorf, who passed away
4on February 8, 2022; and
5    WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was born in Chicago on
6November 3, 1953 and lived in Northbrook; he received his
7Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Social Work at
8the University of Illinois; he was married to the love of his
9life, Sheri (Didech) Langendorf, for 45 years; and
10    WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was a proud school social
11worker/psychiatric social worker; he worked for the Department
12of Children and Family Services and the Oak Therapeutic School
13in Chicago; and
14    WHEREAS, Upon moving to central Illinois, Michael
15Langendorf worked at the Cunningham Children's Home in Urbana,
16St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Private Mental Health
17Associates in Danville, the Ford-Iroquois Special Education
18Cooperative, the Vermilion Association for Special Education,
19and the University of Illinois Laboratory High School; he also
20served as an adjunct instructor for the University of Illinois
21School of Social Work and an Administrative Law Judge/Due
22Process Hearing Officer for the Illinois Department of

1Education; and
2    WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf served on several committees
3and boards; he was the Legislative Chair for the Illinois
4Association of School Social Workers for over 20 years; he was
5passionate about passing laws and providing services for
6students and was a champion for the field of school social
7work; he served on the Governor's Early Childhood Mental
8Health Committee, the Star/Net Mini-Grant review Committee,
9the Novice Teacher Support Project Steering Committee, the U
10of I School of Social Work Advisory Committee, the U of I
11Council on Teacher Education Committee, the VASE Autism Team,
12the Vermilion County Emergency/Crisis Intervention Team, and
13the Vermilion County Early Intervention Council; and
14    WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf advocated for students by
15voluntarily attending school conferences and staffings, by
16mediating for children to ensure they received appropriate
17services, and by supporting and coaching parents for hours on
18the telephone as they advocated for their children; he also
19served as the chair of the Champaign-Urbana Jewish
20Federation's Human Services Committee; and
21    WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was a fabulous chef and took
22pride in the meals he served to his friends and family; no
23cooking task was too small or too great, whether he was cooking

1hot dogs for a soccer team or cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for
2100s at school; he had a special talent for making everyone he
3met feel important and special, and he always opened his heart
4and his home to anyone in need; he loved keeping in touch with
5everyone and would call, text, and Facebook message at all
6hours of the day, always expressing how much the people in his
7life meant to him; and
8    WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was the loving and doting
9father of Emily (Daniel) Mysel and the incredible "Zee" to Max
10and Eli Mysel; he was the devoted son of the late Estelle
11(Jacobson) and the late Sheldon Langendorf and the loving
12son-in-law of Beverly and the late Marvin Didech; he was the
13dearest big brother to Robert Langendorf and brother-in-law to
14Dean (Marleen) Didech and Gregg Didech; he was the fond uncle
15of Amy (Bobby) White, Kevin (Mimi) Langendorf, and Kate (Chris
16Barnett), Daniel (Jen), Adam (Lauren), Scott (Deanna),
17Madeleine, and Makenna Didech and the great uncle to Jackson
18White, Parker Barnett, and Theo Didech; he was the chosen
19brother of David Jacobson, best friend to Glenn Weiss for the
20last 66 years, and dedicated and caring friend to so many;
21therefore, be it
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
24Michael C. Langendorf and extend our sincere condolences to

1his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Michael Langendorf as an expression
5of our deepest sympathy.
