SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lorraine Little Jackson of Benld, who passed away on December 8, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Jackson was born to James Forbes and Ida Arndt Forbes in New Douglas on April 22, 1933; she married Marvin Little, and he passed away in 1983; she later married William Jackson; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Jackson retired as a waitress and restaurant manager for the Mill Cafe; in 1983 with her husband Marvin, she founded the Benld Adopt-A-Pet, a not-for-profit no-kill shelter; she remained its shelter director until her passing, overseeing the adoption of over 30,000 animals during her tenure; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Jackson was a friend, a mentor, and a leader; she was a formidable woman who loved animals and tirelessly dedicated her life towards helping them; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Jackson was preceded in death by her parents; both of her spouses; her stepson, Marvin Little; her brother, James Merle Forbes; and her sister, Velma Talick; and

WHEREAS, Lorraine Jackson is survived by her stepdaughter, Barbara Smothers; her six step-grandchildren; her sisters, Laverne Slightom and Jeanie Fox; and her brother, Ron Forbes; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lorraine Little Jackson and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lorraine Jackson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
