SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

60 ILCS 1/100-15

Amends the Township Code. Provides that, except as otherwise required by a contract existing on the effective date of the amendatory Act or by federal law, a township board shall not provide group life, health, accident, hospital, or dental insurance or any combination of those types of insurance to the spouse of an employee or official or provide such insurances after the employee's employment ends or official's term of office expires.

AN ACT concerning local government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section 100-15 as follows:

Sec. 100-15. Group insurance. In addition to any powers that it may exercise under the Government Salary Withholding Act, the township board may provide, for the benefit of the township's employees or , officials, or retired officials and their dependents, group life, health, accident, hospital, or dental insurance or any combination of those types of insurance. Except as otherwise required by a contract existing on the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 102nd General Assembly or by federal law, the township board shall not provide such insurances to the spouse of an employee or official or provide such insurances after the employee's employment ends or official's term of office expires. The insurance may include provision for employees, officials, retired officials, and their dependents who rely on treatment by prayer or spiritual means alone for healing in accordance with the tenets and practice of a well recognized religious denomination. The township board may provide for payment by the township of all or a portion of the premium or charge for the insurance for covered persons, except that the township may not pay all or a portion of the premium or charge for the insurance for retired officials and their dependents. If the township board undertakes a plan under which the township does not pay the entire amount of premiums or charges for the insurance, the board may provide for withholding and deducting from the compensation of its employees or officers amounts required to pay the balance of the premiums or charges.
