HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, A Christmas Story is a 1983 Christmas comedy film
3directed by Bob Clark and based on Chicago-born Jean
4Shepherd's semi-fictional anecdotes in his 1966 book In God We
5Trust: All Others Pay Cash, with some elements from his 1971
6book Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories And Other
7Disasters; and
 
8    WHEREAS, A Christmas Story was released on November 18,
91983; initially overlooked, its critical reputation has grown
10considerably over the years, and it is regarded by some as one
11of the best films of 1983; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Author Jean Shepherd was born in 1921 on the
13south side of Chicago; he briefly lived in East Chicago,
14Indiana and was raised in Hammond, Indiana; he set A Christmas
15Story in Hohman, Indiana, a fictionalized version of his
16hometown of Hammond; and
 
17    WHEREAS, A Christmas Story has been shown in a marathon
18annually on TNT since 1997 and on TBS since 2004 titled "24
19Hours of A Christmas Story", consisting of 12 consecutive
20airings of the film from the evening of Christmas Eve to the
21evening of Christmas Day annually; and

1    WHEREAS, A Christmas Story is often ranked as one of the
2best Christmas films; in 2012, it was selected for
3preservation in the United States National Film Registry by
4the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically,
5or aesthetically significant"; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Yano Anaya, who played Grover Dill, Emmanuel
7Soba, co-creator of A Christmas Story Family, and Paul A.
8Bachmann, business partner, helped create the online
9community, A Christmas Story Family, designed to connect fans
10with the cast members; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we declare November 18, 2022 as "A Christmas Story Family Day"
14in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16presented to Yano Anaya, Emmanuel Soba, and Paul A. Bachmann
17as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
