HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois of Representatives wish to recognize the life and service of Dolores "Sister Jean" Schmidt; and

WHEREAS, Sister Jean has become an iconic figure and has touched many lives during her long but essential time here on this planet; and

WHEREAS, Sister Jean has spent much of her life shaping the campus life of Loyola University Chicago and has created the foundation and culture that instills how critical it is to do unto others as you would have others do unto you; and

WHEREAS, Sister Jean has helped inspire many Loyola University Chicago sports teams to achieve greater heights than the world expected of them by helping student-athletes maintain their grades so they could maintain their eligibility to play, which evolved into her being the team chaplain for the men's basketball team; and

WHEREAS, Though the men's basketball team has brought Sister Jean fame, she still remains committed to her faith, to which she has been devoted for over a century and has used to lift others; and

WHEREAS, With her smile, Sister Jean has shown the power to make all a believer in the need to show grace and compassion to all who are in want of help and support; and

WHEREAS, Sister Jean is the light that keeps on shining in a dark world, and she will continue to be cherished as she shapes more lives with her charm and historical knowledge that will live inside others for eternity; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the life and service of Dolores "Sister Jean" Schmidt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sister Jean as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
