HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mike
4Campbell of Edwardsville, who passed away on May 20, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Campbell was born to Les and Doris (Meni)
6Campbell on March 17, 1945; he was one of six brothers and
7sisters, which included a twin brother; he graduated from
8Collinsville High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Air
9Force from 1963 to 1967 at San Vito dei Normanni Air Station in
10Brindisi, Italy; he then received multiple degrees from
11Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, including a Master
12of Science in City Planning; he married Myra Highlander at
13Eden Church on November 23, 1974; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mike Campbell developed a love of farming while
15learning from his father-in-law, Herb Highlander, and he
16subsequently farmed for 48 years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mike Campbell had a calling for public service
18that would combine his wealth of knowledge related to
19agriculture, city planning, and government; his many
20accomplishments included serving as President of the Madison
21County Farm Bureau, Chairman of the Madison County Zoning
22Board, Chairman of the Edwardsville Democratic Precinct

1Committee, Supervisor of Edwardsville Township, Chairman of
2the Agricultural Advisory Committee, and Director of Special
3Projects for former U.S. Representative Jerry Costello; he was
4a member of the Executive Committee of the Southwestern
5Illinois Planning Commission and a member of the U.S Secretary
6of Agriculture's Advisory Committee; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In addition to his love for family, farming and
8public service, Mike Campbell was an avid reader and history
9buff; he also developed many close friendships throughout the
10years; visits, phone calls, and laughs meant the world to him;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mike Campbell was preceded in death by his
13parents; his sister, Sharon Taylor; his father-in-law and
14mother-in-law, Herb and Eunice Highlander; his sisters-in-law,
15Sherlyn Witt, Molly Campbell, and Venita Campbell; and his
16brothers-in-law, Paul Witt, Al Duhr, and Ron Highlander; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mike Campbell is survived by his wife, Myra; his
18children, Travis (Brooke) Campbell and Tara (Michael) Lotz;
19his grandchildren, Mason, Eowynn, Brayden, and Alexander; his
20brothers, Jerry and Pat Campbell; his sisters, Kathy Tracy and
21Peggy Duhr; his sister-in-law, Shirley Highlander; and
22numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Mike Campbell and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Mike Campbell as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
