HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Sonya L. Bowen for her many
4years of service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is a native of Chicago and currently
6resides in Richton Park; she earned her Bachelor of Science in
7Computer Information Systems and her Master of Science in
8Management with a dual option in Finance and Accounting from
9Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is a life member and a silver soror of
11Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated (AKA) with 31 years of
12uninterrupted service; she was initiated into Epsilon Rho
13Chapter at Purdue University in 1987; she is a member of the
14Lambda Tau Omega Chapter in Matteson, where she previously
15served as the youngest president, vice president, treasurer,
16assistant financial secretary, and parliamentarian; she also
17served as the protocol chairman of the Central Region from
182010 to 2014, general chairman of the 68th Central Regional
19Conference, and a member of the 2014-2018 International
20Protocol Committee; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen currently serves Alpha Kappa Alpha,
22Incorporated as a regional director, a position she has held

1since her election at the 2018 Central Regional Conference;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is a senior research administrator
4for the Department of Neurology at Northwestern University,
5where she is responsible for the administration of a grant
6portfolio comprised of approximately $15 million; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is an active member of Twenty Pearls
8Foundation, Incorporated, the Bronzeville Children Museum's
9Women Board, the Purdue Alumni Association, and the Purdue
10Black Alumni Association; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is deeply committed to her faith and
12is a member of Faith Movers Church; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we recognizes Sonya L. Bowen for her dedication and service;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Sonya Bowen as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
