HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Sherry Meadows on the occasion of her retirement as township assessor of Mt. Vernon; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Meadows was elected as township assessor of Mt. Vernon in 1990; her responsibilities included assisting constituents, identifying tax exemptions, and determining the market value of most property in the township for use in the Illinois property tax system; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Meadows joined the Illinois Assessors Association (IAA) shortly after becoming township assessor, where she served as a board member and later state president; she was elected as a board member of the Certified Illinois Assessing Organization (CIAO) before being elected as secretary and then state chairman; she served on the Illinois Property Assessment Institute's Board of Directors; she represented Illinois as a board member of the National Central Regional Association of Assessing Officers (NCRAAO); she also represented Downstate Illinois on several state boards; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Meadows has dedicated her time to several local organizations, including currently serving as a member of the Jefferson County Crimestoppers Board and the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts and as chairman of the Mt. Vernon Prayer Breakfast Committee; she has previously served as county chairwoman for the Alzheimer's Association, county chairman of the American Cancer Society for 15 years, and chairman for Relay for Life; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Meadows has received a number of accolades for her service as township assessor and her volunteerism, including the Woman of the Year award from the Business Professional Women in 2000, the Marshall Theroux Memorial Award from the Illinois Property Institute in 2005, and the Volunteer of the Year award from the Alzheimer's Association for Illinois in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Sherry Meadows served as township assessor of Mt. Vernon for 31 years until concluding her tenure on December 31, 2021; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sherry Meadows on her retirement, recognize her commitment to the community and to the State of Illinois, and wish her continued success in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sherry Meadows as an expression of our esteem and respect.
