HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Lou Mallers on being named Darien's 2022 Citizen of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Lou Mallers, a veteran of the United States Army Reserve, moved to Darien in 1989; choosing a professional life in mortgage finance, he serves as Vice President of Business Development at Compass Mortgage; as an active mortgage banker, he has served as President of the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association; and

WHEREAS, As a member of the Darien Lions Club since 1990, Lou Mallers has organized, or has helped to organize, more than 30 years of community and holiday events; the Lions Club has assumed a key role in Darien's annual remembrance of 9/11 and the sacrifices made by firefighters, first responders, and all U.S. service personnel; and

WHEREAS, At Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Darien, Lou Mallers is a leader of his parish's lay community; as service commissioner within the parish council, he has led a corps of volunteers in the ongoing Christian life of his church and its outreach efforts to those in need, which includes the St. Vincent DePaul clothing drive; and

WHEREAS, As a homeowning citizen of Darien, Lou Mallers has served or serves actively on three decisive citizens' committees, including the School District #86's Citizen's Referendum Advisory Committee, the Darien Economic Development Commission, and, since 2012, the Darien Planning and Zoning Commission, on which he currently serves as chairperson; and

WHEREAS, Lou Mallers' community life includes his long service as president of the Pinehurst Homeowners' Association, a challenge that reached its height on June 20, 2021 when the neighborhood was hit by a tornado; as the HOA president, he mobilized needed help to restore the subdivision's infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, As a tribute to his active life of community participation, the Darien Citizen of the Year Committee has unanimously chosen to honor Lou Mallers as Darien's 2022 Citizen of the Year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Lou Mallers as Darien's 2022 Citizen of the Year, warmly congratulate his family that includes wife Carol, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Carmen Mallers, and grandchildren Kendell and Kellen Mallers, and wish him many years of continued community life and service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Lou Mallers and his wife, Carol Mallers.
