HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Vicente Fernandez, a world-wide ambassador of
3Mexican Ranchero music with a distinguished singing career in
4which he was awarded three Grammys and nine Latin Grammys,
5passed away on December 12, 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Vicente Fernandez inspired generations of
7families to share Mexican culture and traditions, including
8all over the State of Illinois, which he visited on several
9occasions; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Vicente Fernandez was born on February 17, 1940
11in Huentitlan Jalisco, the area known as the cradle and origin
12of Mariachi music, representative of celebratory occasions for
13Mexican families; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Vicente Fernandez participated in and sponsored
15Tres Potrillos Charro Teams and the Charro sporting tradition
16in Mexico and all over the world; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Vicente Fernandez came from humble beginnings and
18persevered, creating a successful singing career that included
19over 50 million records sold and an acting career in which he
20was featured in over 30 films; and

1    WHEREAS, Vicente Fernandez championed and fought for the
2empowerment and legalization of undocumented immigrant
3families in the United States; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we declare February 17, 2022 as "Vicente Fernandez Day" in the
7State of Illinois to pay tribute to his tremendous
8contributions.
