HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gerlanda
4L. Miller, who passed away on December 10, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was born to Leroy and Mable
6Miller in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 21, 1963; she was
7originally from Slidell, Louisiana and graduated from Slidell
8High School; she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting
9from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she was
10initiated into the Epsilon Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
11Sorority, Inc. in 1983 and later served as chapter president;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was a certified public accountant
14and entrepreneur for over 25 years; she owned the Gerlanda L.
15Miller, CPA Accounting Firm, assisting clients from
16multi-million dollar corporations to foundations; she served
17as a tax auditor for over 30 years and was an experienced IRS
18audit negotiator; she was trained and licensed in Series 7
19securities; she served as the secretary/treasurer of the
20Service Employees International Union Local 1000 and was a
21site manager for the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program;
22she served as CFO of Kingdom Litigators Law Firm and was
23treasurer of the Minority Apprenticeship Consulting

1Corporation NFP; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was dedicated to Alpha Kappa
3Alpha Sorority, Inc.; she was both a Silver Star and a Life
4Member; during her membership, she held a number of leadership
5positions and served on a number of committees; on the
6regional level, she served as chairman of the State of
7Illinois Connection and as treasurer of the Central Region,
8where she assisted in the planning of four successful and
9fiscally sound regional conferences; she also served as a
10member of the International Finance Committee; she became the
1121st president of the Xi Nu Omega chapter, the largest chapter
12in the Central Region and the Chicagoland area, in 2021; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller belonged to a number of
14professional organizations, including the American Institute
15of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and
16the National Association of Black Accountants; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was affectionately called "Tammy"
18by her family; she was known for working with accuracy,
19integrity, and innovation; she was an invaluable sister to her
20sorority and will be dearly missed; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller is survived by her mother, Mable
22Miller; her siblings, Martha, Clara, Johnny, Gerald, and

1Patrick; a host of family and friends; and Sorors of Xi Nu
2Omega Chapter and the Central Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha
3Sorority; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we mourn the passing of Gerlanda L. Miller and extend our
7sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
8and loved her; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Gerlanda Miller as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
