HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On December 10, 2021, severe storms and tornadoes
3ripped through the Southern and Midwestern United States,
4damaging homes and businesses in Edwardsville; six employees
5tragically lost their lives, and one employee sustained
6serious injuries at the Edwardsville Amazon warehouse; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Severe weather and tornado warnings were issued,
8giving notice to residents to take cover and seek shelter; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The victims of this natural disaster deserve to
10be recognized; they are Deandre S. Morrow, 28, of St. Louis,
11Kevin D. Dickey, 62, of Carlyle, Clayton Lynn Cope, 29, of
12Alton, Etheria S. Hebb, 34, of St. Louis, Larry E. Virden, 46,
13of Collinsville, and Austin J. McEwen, 26, of Edwardsville;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Craig Yost, 39, deserves support during his
16recovery from injuries sustained while trapped due to storm
17damage at the Amazon warehouse; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The health and safety of workers must be a
19priority for all employers, especially as severe weather
20events increase; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we recognize the victims of the December 10, 2021 storms and
4honor their memories; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we urge the Occupational Safety and Health
6Administration to thoroughly conduct their investigation into
7the Edwardsville Amazon warehouse to ensure that proper safety
8protocols were followed before and during the severe weather
9event, that the warehouse was built to code and offered proper
10storm shelter for employees, and that OSHA and the other
11proper authorities can immediately implement proper protocols
12where needed; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That we urge Amazon to review their personnel
14policies to compensate workers that lost income due to the
15severe weather event, as well as the families of those who lost
16their loved ones and those who were injured.
