HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marion
4Flynn of Evanston, who passed away on October 8, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was born in Holbrook, Massachusetts
6on January 22, 1952; she attended Catholic schools, including
7Archbishop Williams High School in her hometown; she earned
8her bachelor's degree in Theology and English from Newton
9College of the Sacred Heart in Newton Centre, Massachusetts in
101974; she moved to Chicago in 1974; she earned her MBA from
11Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in
121980; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn worked as a corporate banker for 33
14years; she began her career at Continental Bank in 1974, where
15she later served as a vice president; she retired as senior
16vice president of Bank of America in 2007; she then worked as a
17development associate for Frances Xavier Warde School in 2007
18and as a development manager for the North Shore United Way
19from 2011 to 2013; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was committed to helping others and
21well known for her volunteerism; she donated countless hours
22to a number of nonprofit organizations, including Meals On

1Wheels Northeastern Illinois and Meals at Home from 2013 to
22017, YWCA Evanston, YWCA North Shore, the Illinois Holocaust
3Museum & Education Center, the Child Restoration Outreach
4Support Organization (CROSO) to educate street children in
5Uganda, the Open Communities fair housing agency, the North
6Shore United Way, and the United Way of Evanston; she served on
7several boards, including Connections for Abused Women and
8their Children (CAWC) as board chair from 1980 to 1986,
9Evanston's Parks and Recreation Board from 1983 to 1993, the
10United Way of Evanston as a member and president from 1999 to
112009, CROSO since 2009, and the YWCA Steering Committee since
122014; she was also a strong supporter of the School District 65
13PTA Equity Project; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn felt called to the priesthood and
15advocated for women to be ordained in the Catholic Church for
16many years; she also believed in integrating social activism
17and Catholic religious traditions by helping the poor,
18combating social injustice, and reforming social structures;
19she served as a board member and treasurer of the Women's
20Ordination Conference since 2013, which is based in
21Washington, D.C.; she planted a seed for an entire younger
22generation of women to work to advocate for women in the
23Catholic Church and worked for the renewal of the Catholic
24Church to be more people-centered; while she was not ordained
25as a priest, she truly lived a life of service and charity; and

1    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was a member of St. Nicholas Church
2in Evanston for more than 30 years, where she served as church
3treasurer, door greeter, lector, and trainer of lectors; she
4was a member of the Parish Council, the Finance Council, and
5the Holiday Festival Committee; she also co-founded the
6church's LGBTQ ministry; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was known for her patience,
8kindness, and generosity; she enjoyed playing mah-jongg and
9softball, and she managed Evanston's Girls Night Out softball
10team for more than 20 years; she will be remembered for her
11life of service and her ability to create community everywhere
12she went; she will be greatly missed by all; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was preceded in death by her
14sibling, Alton; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marion Flynn is survived by her son, James Price
16(Anna Domenick); her granddaughter, Lula; and her sisters,
17Kathleen Flynn and Evelyn Mavilia; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Marion Flynn and extend our sincere
21condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Marion Flynn as an expression of our
4deepest sympathy.
