HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to thank Tom Miller for his decades of dedicated service to the people of Southern Illinois and congratulate him on 45 years on the air; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller, WJPF radio personality and native, life-long Southern Illinoisan, has dedicated 45 years of his life to bringing news and entertainment to the people of Southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller is the host of the news radio WJPF Morning Newswatch, which broadcasts Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 9:00am; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller has lived all of his life in Southern Illinois and began his radio career in his hometown of Harrisburg in 1976, spending much of his early career on the music side of radio; and

WHEREAS, Since Tom Miller's arrival, WJPF has been awarded Medium Market Station of the Year and Best Public Service Program by the Illinois Broadcasters Association and received the Leaders Among Us Award from the Southern Illinoisan newspaper; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller is a former member of the board of trustees of the Bald Knob Cross of Peace and was awarded the Seven Seals Award by the Illinois National Guard for his work on their behalf, their highest civilian award; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller also serves as the operations manager of River Radio and its six radio stations; and

WHEREAS, When he's not working, Tom Miller spends his time with his girlfriend, Kate, or looking for deer across Southern Illinois with his dog, Geddy Lee; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller has steadily dedicated himself to the betterment of the lives and communities of all of Southern Illinois and has established himself as a trusted voice and interviewer; and

WHEREAS, Tom Miller has hosted politicians, sports figures, rock and roll legends, community leaders, medical professionals, and members of every other profession in between as the anchor of WJPF Radio's Morning Newswatch program; and

WHEREAS, We can say without a doubt that because of his years of service and his unmatched on-air persona, Tom Miller has established himself now and forever as Southern Illinois' true radio news anchorman; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the wave of thanks and appreciation and congratulations from the people of Southern Illinois and beyond marking this momentous occasion and achievement, Tom Miller is famous for saying, "It's not about me."; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we take this moment to truly make it all about Tom Miller and thank him for his decades of dedicated service to the people and communities of Southern Illinois as he has been a strong and steady voice guiding the region through good times and bad; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we congratulate Tom Miller on the 45th anniversary of his on-air broadcasting; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Tom Miller and River Radio as a token of our esteem and appreciation.
