HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Kendall County Sheriff
4Dwight Baird on being named Sheriff of the Year by the Illinois
5State Crime Commission in October 2021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In being awarded Sheriff of the Year, the
7Illinois State Crime Commission noted that Sheriff Baird
8continues to display outstanding professional standards in law
9enforcement and advanced field training and exemplifies the
10great service and safety programs of Kendall County; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Crime Commission also noted
12that Sheriff Baird has initiated several educational programs
13for Kendall County inmates and implemented a new video
14visitation program at no cost to taxpayers; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Crime Commission also praised
16Sheriff Baird's formation of a new domestic violence response
17team, community partnerships and outreach programs,
18implementation of body worn cameras, and many other
19improvements to communication with the public; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sheriff Baird was elected to the Office of
21Sheriff of Kendall County in 2014; he started his law

1enforcement career in 1990 when he was hired by the Kendall
2County Sheriff's Office as a deputy; and
 
3    WHEREAS, After serving with the Kendall County Sheriff's
4Office for a year and a half, Sheriff Baird was hired by the
5Oswego Police Department, where he worked in Investigations,
6Patrol, and Undercover Narcotics and was a member of the
7Special Response Team; he rose through the ranks within the
8department to obtain the rank of Chief of Police in 2003, where
9he remained until his retirement in December of 2014; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sheriff Baird has been recognized for his
11achievements throughout his career, which include a Life
12Saving award by the Illinois Police Association, a Medal of
13Valor award by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police,
14two Metropolitan Enforcement Groups Director awards, a 2007
15Youth Service Volunteer award, and the 2006 Governor's Medal
16of Honor award and being named Oswegoland Optimist Police
17Officer of the Year in 1997 and Illinois Crime Commission
18Police Chief of the Year in 2014; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird on being
22named the 2021 Sheriff of the Year by the Illinois State Crime
23Commission; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That we commend Sheriff Baird for his long and
2successful career and thank him for all for his many years of
3service to Kendall County and the State of Illinois, and we
4extend our best wishes for continued success and happiness;
5and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Sheriff Baird as an expression of our esteem and
8respect.
