HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Department of Illinois American Legion Post 673 in Huntley on its 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Chartered on February 7, 1921, Huntley American Legion Post 673 currently has over 320 members; it has been and continues to be an advocate for and supporter of the needs of veterans; and

WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 supports the McHenry County Veterans Assistance Commission, the Veterans Path to Hope, and the New Horizons Transitional Living Program with financial and volunteer resources; and

WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 supports veterans on the individual level by helping them apply for benefits from the Veterans Administration, providing local veteran funeral details, and raising funds to provide comfort items to hospitalized veterans under the Legion's Gifts to the Yanks Who Gave program; and

WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 provides support to the local community as well by organizing the Memorial Day parade, the Veterans Day and Flag Day ceremonies, the annual VetFest community event, and the Flags Across America fundraiser for placement at local cemeteries; and

WHEREAS, Huntley American Legion Post 673 supports Huntley High School by providing scholarships and sponsoring programs such as the Legion Oratorical Contest and the Illinois Boys State Government Leadership program; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Department of Illinois American Legion Post 673 in Huntley on its 100th anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Commander Donald R. Smolinski of American Legion Post 673 in Huntley, Illinois, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
