HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dorri McWhorter on being
4named the first woman and first Black CEO of the YMCA of
5Metropolitan Chicago; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter received her bachelor's degree in
7Business Administration from the University of
8Wisconsin-Madison; she earned her Master of Business
9Administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg School
10of Management; she received an honorary Doctor of Humane
11Letters from Lake Forest College; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter became the CEO of YWCA
13Metropolitan Chicago, the oldest women-focused social service
14organization in Chicago, in March 2013; during her tenure, she
15led the agency into the digital age with the launch of the
16e-commerce platform YShop.org, the health insurance and
17information site womenshealthexchange.org, and the community
18engagement mobile app MPWR; she spearheaded the process of the
19YWCA developing an exchange traded fund (ETF) for women's
20empowerment (NYSE: WOMN) in partnership with Impact Shares,
21which is the first non-profit investment advisor to develop an
22ETF product; and

1    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter was unanimously nominated for the
2position of CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago by an
3eight-person committee after a national search was conducted
4when the previous CEO stepped down in November 2020; she plans
5to stay aligned to YMCA's mission of youth development,
6healthy living, and social responsibility while expanding to
7meet the needs of a population recovering from the devastating
8COVID-19 pandemic; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter serves or has served on the board
10of directors for several organizations, including the American
11Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the
12Illinois CPA Society, the Chicago Center for Arts and
13Technology, 1871 (Technology Business Accelerator), the Civic
14Consulting Alliance, the Civic Federation, Lifeway Foods,
15William Blair Funds, and the Skyway Concession Company
16(Chicago Skyway); she is a member of the Women in
17Entrepreneurship Institute at DePaul University, the Women's
18Philanthropy Institute at Indiana University, and the Illinois
19Charitable Trust Board; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter has earned a number of accolades
21during her career; she was named on the inaugural list of The
22Blue Network, which was comprised of the top 100 innovators in
23Chicago by the Chicago Tribune's Blue Sky Innovation; she
24earned the Innovative Leader Award by Good City Chicago; she

1was also inducted into the Chicago Innovation Hall of Fame in
22019; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter is widely revered in Chicago as a
4champion for women; she is an advocate for both women and
5marginalized people; she prides herself on being a
6socially-conscious business leader and is committed to
7creating an inclusive marketplace by leveraging a multi-sector
8approach across business, civic, and community organizations;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dorri McWhorter will step into her new role on
11August 2, 2021; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Dorri McWhorter on being named CEO of the YMCA
15of Metropolitan Chicago and wish her the best in her new
16position; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Dorri McWhorter as an expression of our esteem
19and respect.
