HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Thomas Q. Weitzel on the
4occasion of his retirement as police chief for the City of
5Riverside; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel has been with the Riverside Police
7Department since September 1984; he has held various positions
8within the department, including Crime Prevention Coordinator,
9Evidence Technician, Public Information Officer (PIO), MCAT
10member (Major Crime Assistance Team), Field Training Officer,
11and Internal Affairs Supervisor; he became police chief in
122008; prior to joining the Riverside Police Department, he
13served as a patrolman for the Chicago Zoological Park Police
14at Brookfield Zoo; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel has received the Kevlar/DuPont
16Survivor's Club Award (1987), the Police Valor Award (1997),
17the Police Medal of Honor (1998), the Distinguished Public
18Servant Award (2005), the Cook County Sheriff's Law
19Enforcement Award of Merit (2006), and the Gazette Newspaper
20Public Official of the Year Award (2006); he has over 200
21Honorable Mentions and Commendation letters from citizens and
22police departments and is a published author on the subject of
23law enforcement; and

1    WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel is a member of the Fraternal Order
2of Police, the Police Benevolent Association, the Illinois
3Police Association, the Northwestern University Alumni
4Association, the International Association for Identification,
5the Illinois Crime Prevention Officers Association, the West
6Suburban Chiefs of Police Association, and the Illinois
7Association of Chiefs of Police; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel holds a master's degree in criminal
9social justice from Lewis University and is a graduate of the
10Illinois Law Enforcement Executive Institute's Executive
11Management program; he was recently honored as a Certified
12Police Chief for the State of Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel is a graduate of the Northwestern
14University Center for Public Safety School of Staff and
15Command, where he served as Vice President of Class 115; he
16holds certificates of graduation from the Institute of Police
17Technology and Management at the University of North Florida,
18the National Crime Prevention Institute in Louisville,
19Kentucky, the F.B.I National Academy in Quantico, Virginia
20(Session 218), The Police Executive Role in the 21st Century
21in Bloomington, and the Law Enforcement Executive Development
22Program (LEEDA) F.B.I.; he is a graduate of the Southwestern
23Law Enforcement Institute's Center for Law Enforcement Ethics

1in Richardson, Texas; he is a nationally certified ethics
2instructor through the Southwest Legal Foundation; therefore,
3be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Thomas Q. Weitzel on his retirement as police
7chief for the City of Riverside, and we wish him the best in
8all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Chief Weitzel as a symbol of our respect and
11esteem.
