HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend the Metropolis Rotary Club for the organization's 100 years of service to both the community and the world; and

WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club was sponsored by the Paducah Kentucky Club in May 1921 and organized under the sponsorship of the Paducah Rotary Club on September 01, 1921; and

WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club follows the objectives of Rotary International, including the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and dignifying each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; the club's application of the ideal of service is displayed in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community lives, and through the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace; and

WHEREAS, From its inception, the Metropolis Rotary Club began community service projects, including the construction of Dorothy Miller Park on May 30, 1970; and

WHEREAS, To expand service opportunities, the Metropolis Rotary Club sponsored the formation of the Route 45 extension to Metropolis, the first hard road, in 1923; and

WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club has also supported communities across the United States and around the world by supporting the global Polio Eradication Initiative; and

WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club continues to live the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" by acknowledging outstanding high school students with scholarships, donating to school programs, and contributing to drug prevention activities, after-school literacy projects, and multiple other service projects benefiting the community; and

WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club has continued to meet during the COVID-19 pandemic under social distancing guidelines, ensuring a consistent line of communication with members and the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend the Metropolis Rotary Club on 100 years of service to the community and the world; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Metropolis Rotary Club as an expression of our respect and esteem.
