HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend the Metropolis Rotary Club for
4the organization's 100 years of service to both the community
5and the world; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club was sponsored by the
7Paducah Kentucky Club in May 1921 and organized under the
8sponsorship of the Paducah Rotary Club on September 01, 1921;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club follows the objectives
11of Rotary International, including the development of
12acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical
13standards in business and professions, the recognition of the
14worthiness of all useful occupations, and dignifying each
15Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; the
16club's application of the ideal of service is displayed in
17each Rotarian's personal, business, and community lives, and
18through the advancement of international understanding,
19goodwill, and peace; and
 
20    WHEREAS, From its inception, the Metropolis Rotary Club
21began community service projects, including the construction
22of Dorothy Miller Park on May 30, 1970; and

1    WHEREAS, To expand service opportunities, the Metropolis
2Rotary Club sponsored the formation of the Route 45 extension
3to Metropolis, the first hard road, in 1923; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club has also supported
5communities across the United States and around the world by
6supporting the global Polio Eradication Initiative; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club continues to live the
8Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" by acknowledging
9outstanding high school students with scholarships, donating
10to school programs, and contributing to drug prevention
11activities, after-school literacy projects, and multiple other
12service projects benefiting the community; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club has continued to meet
14during the COVID-19 pandemic under social distancing
15guidelines, ensuring a consistent line of communication with
16members and the community; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we commend the Metropolis Rotary Club on 100 years of service
20to the community and the world; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the Metropolis Rotary Club as an expression of
3our respect and esteem.
