| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Streator Unlimited, Inc. for | 4 | | the company's work with Illinois State University's School of | 5 | | Information Technology to develop a video game/phone app to | 6 | | assist people with epilepsy; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Streator Unlimited, Inc. began in 1965, and the | 8 | | nonprofit organization has a budget of $3 million and 61 | 9 | | employees, making it one of the larger employers in Streator; | 10 | | and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Streator Unlimited, Inc.'s mission is a | 12 | | commitment to enriching the lives of adults with disabilities | 13 | | by teaching skills that will enable them to reach their | 14 | | fullest potential, live as independently as possible, and | 15 | | become integrated into the community; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Streator Unlimited, Inc. practices its mission in | 17 | | a number of ways, including possessing five group homes to | 18 | | provide 32 adults with developmental disabilities with 24-hour | 19 | | support, providing paid work opportunities to adults with | 20 | | disabilities at its sheltered workshop, running an 8-unit | 21 | | apartment building for low-income adults with disabilities, | 22 | | assisting people with a great variety of disabilities find |

| 1 | | jobs in the community, and providing 70 adults with | 2 | | disabilities with day and vocational training with classes | 3 | | such as nutrition, digital photography, men's and women's | 4 | | clubs, sports, job skills, arts and crafts, basic academics, | 5 | | utilization of computers, and community outings; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, From late 2019 through 2020, Streator Unlimited, | 7 | | Inc. collaborated with students from Illinois State | 8 | | University's School of Information Technology to develop a | 9 | | video game for people with epilepsy, as typical video games | 10 | | possess stimulation and rapid motion that can trigger | 11 | | seizures; the concept of this new video game was to create an | 12 | | video game experience for people who couldn't use typical | 13 | | video games and to offer a video game designed to reinforce | 14 | | positive self-care habits, including taking medication and | 15 | | making smart eating choices; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Streator Unlimited, Inc.'s game, which can be | 17 | | found at www.streatorunlimited.org/epilepsy, can offer | 18 | | services to a projected 28,000 children and adults with | 19 | | epilepsy in Central and Northwest Illinois through grants from | 20 | | the Illinois Department of Human Services; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Streator Unlimited, Inc.'s collaboration with the | 22 | | ISU School of Information Technology is an outstanding example | 23 | | of the organization's commitment of service to the people of |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 3 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 4 | | we recognize Streator Unlimited, Inc. for its collaborative | 5 | | work with Illinois State University's School of Information | 6 | | Technology, and we thank the organization for its continued | 7 | | commitment to serving people with disabilities; and be it | 8 | | further
