HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The rates of unintentional injuries and deaths in
3the United States remain at unacceptable levels; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Risk identification, pandemic-related safety
5concerns, psychological safety, and advancing organizational
6safety remain critical to preventing injuries and deaths in
7the United States; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The cost of unintentional injuries to Americans
9and their employers exceeds $1,097.9 billion each year and
10causes great suffering among individuals and their families;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Illinois residents and all Americans deserve to
13live in communities that promote safe and healthy living; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Preventing unintentional injuries and deaths
15requires the cooperation of all levels of government,
16employers, and the general public; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The National Safety Council, founded in 1913, was
18congressionally chartered in 1953 to lead this nation in
19injury prevention through safety and health information,
20education, training, and advocacy in the United States; and

1    WHEREAS, The National Safety Council works to promote
2policies, practices, and procedures leading to increased
3safety, protection, and health in business and industry, in
4schools and colleges, on roads and highways, and in homes and
5communities; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 2021, The National Safety Council will provide
7this nation with a month-long public education campaign; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The summer season is a time of increased rates of
9unintentional injuries and deaths; it is an appropriate time
10to focus attention on injury risks and preventions; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we express our support of National Safety Month in June 2021,
15and we strongly urge the citizens and businesses of Illinois
16to observe National Safety Month by practicing safe and
17healthy behaviors in all aspects of their lives.
