AN ACT concerning health.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
This Act may be cited as the
Firearm Violence Prevention and Reduction Study Act.
The General Assembly finds that
firearm violence is a serious public health problem in the
United States that impacts the health and safety of Americans.
Important gaps remain in our knowledge about the problem and
ways to prevent it. Addressing these gaps is an important step
toward keeping individuals, families, schools, and communities
safe from firearm violence and its consequences.
The Department of Public Health shall
conduct a study on methods to prevent and reduce firearm
violence in Illinois. The study shall:
(1) research systems to inform the development of
innovative and promising opportunities to enhance safety
and prevent firearm-related injuries, deaths, and crime;
(2) research systems to rigorously evaluate the
effectiveness of innovative and promising strategies to
keep individuals, families, schools, and communities safe
