SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jack L. Sawyer of Mapleton, who passed away on May 9, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Jack Sawyer was born to George and Linda (Herrmann) Sawyer in Baxter Springs, Kansas on November 1, 1937; he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War; he married Judy Herring in Eureka on February 26, 1976; and

WHEREAS, Jack Sawyer was the owner of Contractors Carpet Services for over 50 years before retiring; he also owned Smith & Company Carpet Supplies; and

WHEREAS, Jack Sawyer was a member of Eastside Bible Church in Morton and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Jack Sawyer enjoyed elk hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Jack Sawyer was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Cliff Herring; and his brother, Jerry Sawyer; and

WHEREAS, Jack Sawyer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy; his son, Judd Sawyer; his stepdaughter, Theresa (Brad) Johanson; his grandchildren, Adam Johanson, Benjamin Johanson, and Billie (Clint) Tibbs; three great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jack L. Sawyer and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Sawyer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
