SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ruth Ann Bush-McGaskey, who passed
4away on April 18, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey was born to James Alfred Bush
6and Willie Belle Clark Bush in Natchitoches, Louisiana on
7October 26, 1944; she committed to her faith at an early age
8and was baptized at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the
9Apostolic Faith; she graduated from Natchitoches Central High
10School; she received her licensed practical nurse diploma from
11East St. Louis State Community College in 1980; she married
12George McGaskey on August 25, 1990; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey cared for patients in
14hospitals and residents in nursing homes for over 30 years;
15she worked as the director of nursing at Christian Care Home in
16St. Louis, Missouri; after retiring from nursing, she spent
17time as an after-school worker at High Mount Elementary
18School, working with youth on various activities and homework,
19and as a receptionist at the Social Security Administration's
20Belleville office; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey volunteered at a local
22church's food pantry in Collinsville; and

1    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey enjoyed sewing, cooking,
2decorating, traveling, fishing, shopping, decorating, playing
3slots at the casino, completing crossword puzzles, dressing
4fashionably, and scrolling through Facebook; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey will be remembered as a
6generous, soft-spoken, kindhearted person who loved spending
7time with her family, especially her husband, children, and
8grandchildren; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey was preceded in death by her
10husband; her daughter, Jacqueline Hayes; her granddaughter,
11Tammurra Hamilton; her grandson, Darrin B. Hayes II; her
12sisters, Vera Bush, Moise Modest, and Mary Dee McGaskey; and
13her brothers, Joe D. Bush, Lester Bush Sr., Odell Bush, James
14Bush Jr., Clyde Bush, and Henry Earl Bush; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ruth Bush-McGaskey is survived by her children,
16Steve McGaskey, Patrina Bush, Patrick Bush, Roderick Bush,
17Tammy Bush-Hamilton, Latekia Bush, Javonda (Untress) Quinn,
18and Jalonda Bush; her grandchildren, Alicia McGaskey, Corey
19McGaskey, Szemarr McGaskey, Jaquette Sterling-Ransom, Ashley
20Hence, Taylor Bush, Antonio Lewis, Brionnca Lewis, Frederick
21Taylor Jr., Amare Quinn, and Aden Quinn; her
22great-grandchildren, Taylor Jones, Kori Jones, Korianna Jones,

1D'Aryius Jones, McKenzie Jones, Kamren Ransom, Kolby Ransom,
2Layla Hence, Aamira Hayes, Dariana Hayes, and Darrin B. Hayes
3III; her sister, Ola Mae Bush-Johnson; her brother, Bishop
4Vuray Bush; and other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Ruth Ann Bush-McGaskey and extend our sincere condolences to
8her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Ruth Bush-McGaskey as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
