SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lynn "Tom" Harpst of Mahomet, who passed away on June 18, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Tom Harpst was born to John and Eileen (Shea) Harpst in Monroe, Wisconsin on September 18, 1942; he graduated from Champaign High School in 1960; he joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served on the U.S.S. Windham County, formerly known as the U.S.S. LST-1170, for three years, two months, and one day; he married Martha McCree in Champaign on February 18, 1995; and

WHEREAS, Tom Harpst worked as a state highway worker for the majority of his adult life, earning retirement in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Tom Harpst believed in community service and was active with the Mahomet Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Patriot Guard Riders; he also served with the Cornbelt Fire Department for 32 years; and

WHEREAS, Tom Harpst was preceded in death by his brother, John; and

WHEREAS, Tom Harpst is survived by his wife, Martha; his sons, Andy (Alyssa) Harpst and Chris (Sarah Hall) Harpst; his stepchildren, Connie (Cam) Bierman, Randy (Shirley) Eggemeyer, and Mark (Lorie) Eggemeyer; his eight grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Tara (Ken) Nichols; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lynn "Tom" Harpst and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tom Harpst as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
