HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Norma Jean Hughes of Peoria, who passed away on September 21, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Norma Hughes was born on May 19, 1951; she was the daughter of Hattie Stuckey and Palmer Kennedy, and she was also raised by Willie Ella and James Penny; and

WHEREAS, Norma Hughes worked for the State of Illinois for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Norma Hughes was deeply committed to her faith and attended Sovereign Grace Missionary Baptist Church; she enjoyed shopping, traveling, and attending music concerts; she truly cherished spending time with her family and looked forward to family gatherings; and

WHEREAS, Norma Hughes was known for being there when others needed her; she will be remembered for her giving heart and her love of family; and

WHEREAS, Norma Hughes was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Nathaniel Kennedy and Carrie Stuckey; and

WHEREAS, Norma Hughes is survived by her sons, Michael (Cosheka) Hughes and Alvin Hughes; her daughters, Anisha (Pete) Hughes Washington and Nikya Hughes; her sisters, Anita Gibson and Janice Stuckey; her brothers, Charles Stuckey, Anthony Ray Stuckey, Roosevelt Stuckey, and Sylvester Hughes; her 19 grandchildren; her 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Norma Jean Hughes and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Norma Hughes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
