HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Voss Pattern Works Inc. in Belleville on 100 years of business; and

WHEREAS, Voss Pattern Works was opened at 1116 East "A" Street by Edward and Lena Voss in 1921; and

WHEREAS, Edward and Lena's eldest son Ed worked at Voss Pattern Works from 1946 to 1947 before relocating as a patternmaker to San Francisco, California; their son Virgil started working in pattern making in 1946, and their son Leo started in 1948; and

WHEREAS, Upon Edward's death in January of 1958, Virgil and Leo formed a partnership to continue the business and joined the Pattern Makers League of North America; and

WHEREAS, In 1966, the business moved into the present location at 123 Iowa Ave; and

WHEREAS, Lena retired in 1978, and Leo's wife Mina became the office manager; and

WHEREAS, The business was incorporated in June of 1980; and

WHEREAS, Virgil's son Tim worked as an apprentice pattern maker from 1980 to 1982; Leo's son Joe started as an apprentice in June 1981, and Leo's son Frank has operated the shell core machine since 1987; and

WHEREAS, Upon Virgil's death in August of 2002, Joe became shop manager; and

WHEREAS, Leo and Mina, both 92-years old, continue to come to the shop almost every day; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Voss Pattern Works Inc. on 100 years of service and wish them continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Voss Pattern Works Inc. as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
