HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Strides for Peace was founded in response to the high incidence of gun violence occurring in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The mission of Strides for Peace is to increase the collective impact of community organizations working to stop gun violence, save lives, and build a stronger Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The Race Against Gun Violence was launched by Strides for Peace in 2014 to bring the community together and show the world that Chicago can come together to address the problem of gun violence and save lives; and

WHEREAS, The race is a rallying point to raise funds for and awareness of what is being done to end gun violence and build a Chicago where all can thrive; and

WHEREAS, The date for this race was chosen to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Month and the urgent need to prevent gun violence, especially during the summer months, and to provide a platform for members of the Chicagoland community to come together to be part of the solution to this problem; and

WHEREAS, Strides for Peace is hosting the Race Against Gun Violence on the evening of September 23, 2021 at 6pm at Arvey Field in Grant Park, with a virtual option for those unable to attend in person; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and support the Race Against Gun Violence hosted by Strides for Peace and the larger effort to address and prevent gun violence in the City of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Strides for Peace as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
