1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, This year of 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of
3 the passing of Illinois State Trooper Frank R. Dunbar; and

4     WHEREAS, It is important and appropriate to honor the men
5 and women of the Illinois State Police Division of Patrol for
6 their contributions to improving public safety; and

7     WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar joined the Illinois State Police
8 on October 28, 1957 and was assigned to District 13 in DuQuoin;
9 and

10     WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was killed in an automobile
11 accident on May 14, 1972 while patrolling Route 37, north of
12 Benton; and

13     WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was the first state trooper in 26
14 years to be killed in the line of duty and the first to be
15 killed in a patrol car accident in Southern Illinois; and

16     WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar's service to and sacrifice for the
17 people of Illinois should never be forgotten; therefore, be it

18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19 HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE

1 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 37
2 north of the city of Benton and south of Lake Benton Road as
3 the "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial Highway"; and be it
4 further

5     RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
6 is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
7 State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
8 giving notice of the name of "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial
9 Highway"; and be it further

10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Trooper Dunbar.
