SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elsie P. Radtke, who passed away on October 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Elsie Radtke was born in Chicago to Richard and Virginia Prendergast on March 21, 1949; before college, she started working and eventually managed six locations of Mary Del Corsetieres; she graduated from Saint Xavier University with a Master of Arts in Education; she married John Mannix in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Elsie Radtke worked as an art, English, and computer teacher before becoming the Associate Director of Family Ministries for the Archdiocese of Chicago, where she guided families through good times and bad; and

WHEREAS, Elsie Radtke was always looking for ways to help others and volunteered for many organizations, including PADS/Housing Forward; she was a skilled painter and baker, and her banana bread and chocolate chip cookies will be missed; she was an active and dedicated member of the Mater Christi Church, where she served as a Lector and participated on the Wake Committee and in the Women's Guild; and

WHEREAS, Elsie Radtke married John Radtke in 2000, and they traveled the world and enjoyed spending time being Grandma and Pa; for Elsie, nothing was more important than spending time with her grandchildren, and her love for her grandchildren was matched only by their love for her; and

WHEREAS, Elsie Radtke was the dearly beloved wife of John A. Radtke; the devoted mother of Kate (Jon) Hall, Thomas (Beth) Mannix, and Elizabeth (Brian) Gajos; the dear stepmother of Rebecca, Jeremy, Jessica, and the late Jeffrey Radtke; the adoring grandmother of Maya, Quinn, Lucas, J.J., and Jimmy; the loving sister of Kathleen (Dennis Ginosi) Prendergast, Joan (Michael) Restko, Joseph (Mitzi) Prendergast, Rev. Richard Prendergast, Thomas (Margaret) Prendergast, Anne (Roberto Obregon) Prendergast, Edward (Juliet) Prendergast, Melon (Michael) Prischman, and James (Rachel) Prendergast; and the dear aunt and friend of many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elsie P. Radtke and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elsie Radtke as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
