SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ronald A. "Ron" Raglin, who passed away on August 26, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was born in Chicago to Jeanette (Reed) Raglin and Clarence Williams on December 7, 1960; he attended William Shakespeare Elementary School and the Sue Duncan Children's Center; he graduated from Martin Luther King Jr. High School in 1979, where he played basketball for the Jaguars against players such as Isaiah Thomas, Mark Aguirre, and Doc Rivers; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin relocated to California to play basketball for the Blue Devils at Merced Community College; he graduated in 1981 and began attending Sterling College in Kansas, where he continued to play basketball for the Warriors; he married Tena Powles on December 17, 1983 and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin spent his entire 35-year career in public education; he started teaching and coaching in Dos Palos, California and Merced, California; he returned to Chicago and spent 10 years as an administrator in the Chicago Public Schools; he then spent seven years in the U-46 School District in Chicago's northwest suburbs as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Support Programs and Alignment and the AVID District Director; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was an AVID teacher and administrator for over 20 years, reaching thousands of students; he was a passionate advocate for justice and equity for all students; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin received numerous recognitions over the years, including the Jerry Sloan Summer Basketball Camp MVP in 1978, being named as one of the 35 Outstanding Merced College Alumni recognized on the 35th anniversary in 1998, the Community HERO Award by the Merced Sun Star and Save Mart in 1998, and the 34th Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award of Elgin on January 19, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was a member of Willow Creek Community Church and had previously served as a deacon and an elder; he was active in many community organizations; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Ron Raglin is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tena; his children, Matthew (Anastasia) and Marissa; his grandchildren, Jayden, Amira, and Elianna; his sisters, Jennifer Sturden and Yvonne Saks; his brother, Alvin Raglin; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law; and extended family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ronald A. Raglin and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ron Raglin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
