SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Raymond Clarence "Ray" Knuckles of
4Bloomington, who passed away on August 22, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ray Knuckles was born in Wing to James C. and
6Alice Helen Wright Knuckles on June 23, 1919; he served in the
7United States Army during World War II, where he obtained the
8rank of lieutenant colonel and was the recipient of two Purple
9Hearts and two Bronze Stars; he earned a Bachelor of Science
10from the University of Illinois; he married Mary Earle Marsh at
11Camp Claiborne, Louisiana on May 10, 1942; she preceded him in
12death; he married Betty Wilson Strouse in Bloomington on
13September 11, 1964; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ray Knuckles worked at Bloomington Federal
15Savings & Loan, where he was vice president of appraisals; he
16retired in 1984; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ray Knuckles was a member of the Second
18Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, where he was a former
19elder; he was a member of the Bloomington Exchange Club; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ray Knuckles was preceded in death by his parents
21and his sisters, Beatrice Spafford and Janice Bowers; and

1    WHEREAS, Ray Knuckles is survived by his wife, Betty; his
2children, Jeffry J. (Barbara) Knuckles and Julia Rae (John)
3Fetter; his stepchildren, Debra Sue (Jimmy) Maruskin, Linda Jo
4Strouse, and Roger L. Strouse; his seven grandchildren; his two
5great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren and
6step-great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Raymond Clarence "Ray" Knuckles and extend our sincere
10condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11him; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Ray Knuckles as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
