SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death Paul Slivinski on October 15, 2018 at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, Paul Slivinski was born in Chicago to immigrant parents from Lithuania on May 5, 1926; and

WHEREAS, Paul Slivinski lived his life admirably and passionately; he served in the United States Navy during World War II; he touched many lives as a biology teacher at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago and as a school principal at Pershing School in Berwyn; and

WHEREAS, Paul Slivinski was known as a creative actor and artist who lived his life abundantly and with purpose; he was guided by Alan Wilson Watts, the British-American philosopher who interpreted and popularized Eastern philosophy for a Western audience; in particular, he followed Watts' adage, "If you go off into a far forest and get very quiet, you'll come to understand that you are connected to everything"; and

WHEREAS, Paul Slivinski's wife of 62 years, Helen (Kaspar) Slivinski, passed away within months of his death; he is survived by his children, Ann, Lucy, and David Slivinski; and his grandchildren, Theo Glaser, Vanessa Slivinski, Kindra Slivinski, and Matthew Slivinski; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Paul Slivinski, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family Paul Slivinski as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
