SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Wally Chance of Milan, who passed away on December 3, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Wally Chance was born in Alabama to Hubert and Mary Lou "Doskie" (Hargett) Chance on December 21, 1926; he married Betty Sharp in Rock Island on August 14, 1954, and she preceded him in death in 2012; he served in the U.S. Army; and

WHEREAS, Wally Chance worked as a pipefitter for John Deere Co. before retiring in 1985; alongside his wife, he opened the Scamper In, a diner in Milan, in November 1958, and he did maintenance there part time until it closed in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Wally Chance enjoyed listening to country and blue grass music; he also enjoyed watching the University of Alabama football games on television; during the summertime, he loved boating and fishing with his friends; and

WHEREAS, Wally Chance was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a grandson; and several siblings; and

WHEREAS, Wally Chance is survived by his children, Sandy (Don) McLean, Tammy (Robert) McShane, Kevin (Dawn Harlow) Chance, and Brian Chance; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ruby Williams; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Wally Chance and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Wally Chance as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
