SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mark Hinojosa, who passed away on February 21, 2020 at the age of 63; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa was born on August 17, 1956 to John G. and Emma Hinojosa and grew up in Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa earned his bachelor's degree from Pepperdine University, where he studied mass communications; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa worked as the Associate Managing Editor for Multimedia for the Chicago Tribune; he and his staff received various awards for their multimedia projects; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa later became the Director of Interactive Media for The Detroit News and developed their social media strategy; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa finished his career as an associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, where he taught and inspired many; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa had a passion for photography, starting in middle school, and pursued it throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa will be remembered by his friends, coworkers, and students not only for his influence on journalism but also for his ability to make deep friendships anywhere he went; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Mark Hinojosa is survived by his wife of 31 years, Katherine Foran; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing Mark Hinojosa and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mark Hinojosa as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
