SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, the members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clark Michael "Mike" Shanahan of Oak
4Park, who passed away on July 1, 2020 at the age of 64; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Shanahan was born to Clark and JoAnn (Kelley)
6Shanahan in Owosso, Michigan on July 12, 1955; he was a
7graduate of the Farallones Institute in California, where he
8discovered his passion for furniture design and construction;
9he subsequently pursued a career in furniture craftsmanship in
10Paris; his love for french culture inspired him to earn a
11Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Illinois at
12Chicago upon his return to the United States; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mike Shanahan had his own woodworking shops in and
14around Paris; his clients included Chanel, actresses such as
15Delphine Seyrig, the Manufacture Nationale des Gobelins, and
16many more; he continued his woodworking in the U.S., where he
17produced work for high-profile clients such as the Museum of
18Contemporary Art; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mike Shanahan was a passionate advocate for
20racial, social, environmental, and economic justice; he was
21known for the lively and intellectual discussions he invited at
22his dinner table; and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Shanahan was deeply committed to his
2community and his world; he tackled the nuts and bolts tasks of
3political activism with enthusiasm, intellectualism, and
4charm; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Shanahan was the loving husband of
6Marie-Hélène (Roudaut) Shanahan; the father of Matthieu
7Shanahan (April Paulson), Claire (Matthew) Senn, and Alice
8(Carlos) Robles-Shanahan; the grandfather to Elliot, Louise,
9and Oliver; and the brother to Kathleen Shanahan (Joseph
10Hlavacek), Thomas Shanahan (Mariann Watson), Matthew Shanahan
11(Cara Weiler), and Susan (Jeffrey) Phillips; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Clark Michael "Mike" Shanahan and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Mike Shanahan as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
