| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Joseph Dean "Joe" Scherschel of Hampton, | 4 | | who passed away on November 13, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joe Scherschel was born in Rapid City to William | 6 | | Andrew and Elva Pauline McLaughlin Scherschel on August 3, | 7 | | 1933; he graduated from Moline High School in 1952; he attended | 8 | | the Moline Institute of Commerce; he served in the U.S. Army | 9 | | Reserve, where he belonged to the 44th Artillery and served as | 10 | | Private First Class during the Korean War; he married Pat | 11 | | Pearsall on September 4, 1957, and she preceded him in death on | 12 | | February 23, 2016; together, they adopted two children, Dean | 13 | | and Jay; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Joe Scherschel first worked at Omar Bread Company, | 15 | | where he delivered bread and milk; then, he was employed as an | 16 | | appliance salesman at the Gas & Light Company; he later worked | 17 | | for the U.S. Postal Service, where he had perfect attendance | 18 | | and retired in 1998; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Joe Scherschel volunteered for the Mississippi | 20 | | Valley Regional Blood Center after retirement, and he became | 21 | | known as "The Blood Man" for delivering blood all around the | 22 | | Quad Cities and surrounding areas; alongside his wife, he was a |

| 1 | | member of the First Baptist Church of East Moline; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Joe Scherschel was known for his daily bike rides | 3 | | around the neighborhood and enjoyed driving around to local | 4 | | restaurants, where he would stop and visit with people; he was | 5 | | also known for performing magic tricks, especially the rubber | 6 | | band trick; his proudest moment was becoming a grandfather, and | 7 | | he did anything and everything for his four grandchildren; he | 8 | | will be remembered for being a friend to all and a man who was | 9 | | always smiling, happy to meet and see others, and willing to | 10 | | lend a helping hand; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Joe Scherschel was preceded in death by his wife; | 12 | | his parents; his brother, Wayne; his sister, Beverly; and his | 13 | | son, Dean; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Joe Scherschel is survived by his son, Jay (Renae) | 15 | | Scherschel; his grandchildren, Joe (Annemarie Chambliss) | 16 | | Scherschel, Jenny (Adam) Long, Sara Scherschel, and Nathan | 17 | | Scherschel; and his great-grandchildren, Carter and Teagan; | 18 | | therefore, be it
