SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Kurt E. Nelson of Rock Island, who passed away on October 20, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson was born in Moline to Carl E. and Elsa C. (Grahn) Nelson on December 24, 1921; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Ocean theater on the island of Saipan; he graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago; he married Violet M. Helstrom in Moline on November 19, 1988; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson practiced dentistry in Moline for 30 years before he retired in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Moline; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; his parents; and his brother, Lennart; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson is survived by his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. Kurt E. Nelson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Nelson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
