SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gary Waterstradt of Danville, who passed
4away on August 21, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt was born in Danville to Henry and
6Mary (Nolan) Waterstradt on December 29, 1950; he graduated
7from Danville High School in 1969 and served with the U.S.
8Army, 101st Airborne Division, 2nd of the 17th Cavalry; he
9spent one tour in Vietnam and received several recognitions,
10including the Bronze Star; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt worked for the City of Danville
12from 1973 until his retirement in 2002; his employment
13encompassed many areas, including serving as Director of Parks
14and Recreation where he oversaw the municipal pool, over 80
15recreational men's and women's softball teams, a pre-school
16program, and the Little Vermilion Fall Festival; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt became a city wide planner in the
18City Planning and Development Department in 1989; he was
19instrumental in working with the Danville Zoning Commission,
20Downtown Danville, Inc., and the Danville Renaissance Board; he
21played a key role in the purchase of land for Winter Park, the
22urban renewal area of Main Street that became Towne Center, and

1the development and zoning of land allowing for the
2construction of Lowes and Walmart; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt's love of the parks continued
4with his involvement with his children through baseball,
5softball, soccer, and Indian Princesses; his love of family was
6reflected in his dedication to the parks and the activities
7that surrounded them; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gary Waterstradt is survived by his wife, Carolyn
9(Day); his children, Eric, Elizabeth, and Katie; his grandson,
10Turner; and his brother, John, and his sister, Donna Dines;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Gary Waterstradt and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Gary Waterstradt as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
